Methanol removal by membrane Pervaporation or Vapor Permeation

Specially treated new PVA membranes have been developed allowing separating simple alcohols (as methanol or ethanol) from their mixtures with organic solvents whereby this mixtures are virtually anhydrous. Methanol can be also easily removed from polar/nonpolar organic solvents mixtures like methanol/MTBE, methanol/benzene, methanol/toluene or methanol/cyclohexane. Such technology can be applied by demethanolization of beverage alcohol, for the production of MTBE, ETBE or TME etc.
